The objectives of the Kapi-Mana Music Teachers’ Assn. are:

(1)   To promote music learning, performance and enjoyment

(2)   To encourage students and teachers to achieve and enjoy good music making

(3)   To provide performance opportunities and audience enjoyment in Porirua City

The Assn. welcomes all music teachers who work within the area.

Annually KMMTA runs music competitions for school-aged students of members of the Association.

These are traditionally held late August/September with entries closing six weeks before the event.  In 2011 the Competitions will be held on Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th September in the NZCT Stadium, Te Raurarapa Arena, Porirua.

Classes are divided by age and grade, with classes held for solo instrument, duet, and ensembles.

A ‘special class’ is held each year on a set subject or composer at Intermediate (Years 6 -8 at school) and Senior (Secondary school students) levels.  This is a wonderful opportunity to hear music presented on a variety of instruments, both solos, duets, and combination of instruments.

In 2011 the ‘special class’ subject is a jazzy piece of music.

Audience entry is free, but a programme ($2) will be available.

Membership

Currently set at $10, membership entitles teachers to enter students for the annual music competitions.  No particular qualifications are required but a readiness to be involved in our activities, to contribute and participate is important.  We work together for the benefit of our members, students and ultimately the wider community in which we live.
