Stepping UP - ICT for a better future
Choose from a range of modules

The following curriculum has been developed in accordance with 20/20 Communication Trust’s Stepping UP initiative, an initiative which is supported by Microsoft.  Stepping UP is designed to give anyone with basic computer knowledge the opportunity to develop skills a step further in areas of direct relevance to your work and home life. Each step takes 2.5 hours to complete, once you have completed four steps, you will receive a Stepping UP certificate (as well as the satisfaction of knowing what you have achieved). Digital Steps for Work

Digital Steps for Work 1 - Digital Design
This course teaches the basics of using Publisher to create cards, posters and signs to name a few. Learners learn how to easily manipulate various design templates to their requirements and add graphics for display.

Digital Steps for Work 2 - Office Skills
This course focuses on producing documents such as letters, minutes, agendas, reports and memos using various accepted layouts used in offices.

Digital Steps for Work 3 - Computer Maintenance
This course teaches the importance of file management, how to organise files and folders, delete files you don’t need, remove programs you do not use, secure your pc against threats, power management and file backup.

Digital Steps for Work 4 - Financial Management

This course teaches basis spreadsheet concepts for finance, create worksheets, learn basic formulas, logical functions and create charts and graphs.

Digital Steps for Work 5 - Microsoft Skills
This course introduces Microsoft PowerPoint and Microsoft Access. Learn how to create electronic presentations, manipulate design, slide animation, and add graphics, music and video. Using Access, learn how to create a database as a basic table or using a user friendly form. Also learn how to run queries to find specific information.

Digital Steps for Work 6 - Digital Communications

This course teaches everything you need to know about email, composing messages, replying, forwarding, scheduling appointments, managing and organizing mail to name a few.

Digital Steps for Work 7 - e-Resources

This course teaches how to search the internet for information, useful websites, evaluating resources and information for accuracy and usefulness, internet security threats and keeping children safe online.


Digital Steps for Work 8 – Online Business
This course teaches the basics of buying and selling online, varying risks and commitments using TradeMe.

Digital Steps for Work 9 – Employment Readiness
This course teaches how to create a CV using Microsoft Word or Publisher, cover letters, tips for applying for work and attending interviews.

Digital Steps for Work 10 – Applying for Work
This course teaches online job searching through useful job websites. Learn how to apply for work. Discover your entitlements through Work & Income by learning how to search and explore their website for information.

Digital Steps for Home 1 - Digital Imaging
This course introduces digital photography. Learn how to take photos and transfer them to a computer. Learn basic photo editing, share your photos online and use Windows Movie Maker to create a photo presentation.

Digital Steps for Home 2 – Digital TV and Music

This course focuses on how to use Windows Media Player to listen to Music CD’s and online Radio stations, backing up music, downloading music from legal websites, watching music videos online through YouTube and online Television.

Digital Steps for Home 3 – Online Communication
This course introduces Skype and MSN to communicate with friends and family online. Social Networking is also covered. Setup your own page on Facebook or Bebo.

Digital Steps for Home 4 – Homework Centre

This course teaches various tips and tricks to help children with schoolwork. Explore the internet for websites that will assist children with their schoolwork. Internet Safety and keeping children safe online is also reinforced.

Digital Steps for Home 5 – Current Affairs

This course introduces local, national and international news via TV, radio and news online. Learn how to setup a blog site and update information.

Digital Steps for Home 6 - Finances
This course introduces the advantages of online banking, how to use Excel to setup a basic household budget, explore sorted.org.nz for various tips on financial issues.
